Police are on the hunt for a knife-wielding attacker who apparently stabbed a man on the Upper West Side on Monday morning for seemingly no reason, authorities said.

Police are on the hunt for a knife-wielding attacker who apparently stabbed a man on the Upper West Side on Monday morning in a random assault, authorities said.
According to police sources, the brazen morning assault took place at about 8:05 a.m. on March 25 at the corner of West 96th Street and Broadway, near the entrance to the 1/2/3 train station.
Law enforcement sources said the unidentified attacker approached the victim, aa 26-year-old man, and stabbed him in the buttocks.
A local food vendor who witnessed the attack, and did not give his name told amNewYork Metro, said that the victim staggered across the street and collapsed outside of the T-Mobile storefront.
“He stabbed him outside of the train station,” the vendor recalled. “I didn’t see the [stabbing] because I was working, but he [the victim] laid down here and the ambulance came.”
Cops say EMS rushed the injured man to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, where he is expected to survive. Based on a preliminary investigation, police believe the attack was unprovoked.
Officers from the 24th Precinct set up two separate crime scenes, one where the victim collapsed and the other where the knifing occurred. A large amount of blood could be observed on the sidewalk while cops could be seen photographing a backpack that was discarded during the attack.
No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
