An off-duty NYPD officer was shot Wednesday and is recovering in a Queens hospital following an apparent road rage dispute, sources said.
While details are still emerging, initial reports indicate that the shooting took place just before 1 p.m. on Queens Boulevard and 70th Street in Woodside, within the confines of the 108th Precinct.
Sources state that the off-duty NYPD officer, a male, was shot in the leg before being rushed to Elmhurst Hospital to undergo emergency surgery. The wound is not expected to be life threatening.
Early on in the investigation, police believe the off-duty officer was wounded while riding inside an unmarked Kia. The vehicle’s rear window had been shot out.
Two people of interest are reportedly in custody and are being questioned.
The NYPD is asking the public to stay clear of the area which currently houses a large emergency presence as they investigate.
