Cops are investigating a road rage shooting that took place early Monday, Sept. 18, on the Long Island Expressway in Bayside.

Detectives from the 111th Precinct in Bayside are investigating a road rage shooting that took place on the Long Island Expressway early Monday morning.
The incident occurred just before 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 18, near exit 23, when the driver of a white Mercedes Benz SUV was heading eastbound and tried to pass a slow-moving vehicle near the Little Neck Parkway but could not do so. The SUV decelerated and swerved back behind the slow-goer, then pulled out a handgun and fired a shot that struck the right passenger-side fender, according to a source familiar with the investigation.
The driver who was fired at followed the SUV in an attempt to get the license plate when the driver exited the Long Island Expressway at the Douglaston Parkway exit and headed westbound on the Horace Harding Expressway.
The driver who was fired upon drove back to the location where the shooting took place and called 911. The driver was unharmed.
There have been no arrests and the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
