A 59-year-old woman died in a box fire inside of a Dickens Street home in Far Rockaway Saturday, July 22, according to authorities.

A 59-year-old woman died in a box fire inside of a Dickens Street home in Far Rockaway Saturday evening, according to authorities.
First responders received a call regarding a residential fire at 10-46 Dickens St. at approximately 7:30 p.m. on July 22.
According to the FDNY, the fire was on the top floor of the three-story residence. FDNY sent 12 units consisting of 60 firefighters to extinguish the blaze.
A woman was recovered from inside the home and transported to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, according to authorities. Her identity is being withheld pending family notification.
The “all hands” fire was under control by 8:24 p.m., according to the FDNY.

The FDNY’s fire marshal is working to investigate the cause of the fire.
