1 injured in New Year’s Day house fire on Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — One person was injured following a fire at a two-story home in West Brighton on New Year’s Day.

The unidentified individual was transported to Richmond University Medical Center. Their condition is not known at this time.

The fire was reported to FDNY at 5:38 p.m.; 12 FDNY units responded to the home on Brookside Avenue with 60 fire and EMS personnel, according to a spokesperson for the FDNY. The fire was placed under control at 6:26 p.m.

One neighbor told the Advance/SILive.com that seven individuals — three adults and four children — live at the residence.

The fire started on the second floor in a bedroom, Division 8 Deputy Chief Gregg Hansson told the Advance/SILive.com. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
