STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Check the prescription and over-the-counter drugs that you take or give to your pets. If they have the Akorn brand or were made by Akorn for another company — they are being recalled.
Akorn Operating Company LLC is recalling all of its drugs within expiry due to its shutdown, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It has ceased and shut down all operations and terminated all its employees of all domestic sites in the United States.
The company is initiating a voluntary recall of various human and pet products as a result of the closures and discontinuation of its quality program, which means the company can’t support or guarantee that the products will meet all intended specifications through the labeled shelf life. Further distribution or use of any remaining products on the market should cease immediately.
Visit FDA.gov for a full list of the human products and a full list of pet products being recalled.
Akorn hasn’t received any reports of adverse events related to this recall.
The products were distributed nationwide to wholesalers, retailers, manufacturers, medical facilities, repackagers, and via the internet to consumers.
Akorn suggested all products be discarded.
Consumers with questions regarding this recall can contact Akorn at 800-932-5676. Consumers should contact their physician, their health-care provider or veterinarian if they, or animals in their care, have experienced any problems that may be related to taking or using these drug products.
