STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Walmart is prepared to make back-to-school shopping affordable and easy for teachers and local schools across the country with the launch of two new programs.
This upcoming academic year, teachers are expected to spend over $820 of their own money on classroom supplies, according to a report by My eLearning World.
Classroom Registry and Spark Good Registry and Round Up are two new programs designed for โteachers and families to save money and for local communities to give back to their schools,โ announced Julie Barber, executive vice president of general merchandise at Walmart U.S., on the company website.
The refashioned, innovative Classroom Registry is designed to help reduce teachersโ expenses on supplies on Walmart.com and the Walmart app. Itโs a user-friendly tool, in which educators can plan, shop and share their classroom wish lists. You can find registries by searching the teacherโs last name and state on Walmartโs registry page.
While Classroom Registry focuses on fulfilling teacher wish lists, another program, set to start this month — Spark Good Registry and Round up — allows customers to support an entire school year-round.
Through Spark Good Registry and Round Up, public and private schools can create a non-profit account to receive tax-deductible donations. The Spark Good Registry is similar to the classroom registry, but it includes items requested by the entire school. Round Up enables customers to round up their purchases to the nearest dollar, with the difference supporting the school of their choice.
