Baltimore Ravens running back Gus Edwards shouts out Park Hill on Sunday Night Football

Staten Island, stand up.

Baltimore Ravens running back Gus Edwards had an interesting introduction on Sunday Night Football. When the Ravens took the field, the NBC broadcast cut to each of the starters doing their typical player introductions.

While most players simply stated their names and the college they attended, Edwards took a different approach.

โ€œGus Edwards…Park Hill.โ€

Edwards, in an ode to the neighborhood he grew up in, shouted out the Park Hill projects. The 28-year-old Tottenville HS product was born in Liberia but his family moved into a two-bedroom apartment on Staten Islandโ€™s North Shore when he was a youngster.

All heโ€™s done since is attend the University of Miami and Rutgers before going on to a steady five-year career in the NFL. Heโ€™s rushed for 700+ yards in three of the last four seasons and is on pace to go well beyond that mark this year.

Staten Islanders, meanwhile, rejoiced over the acknowledgement on X (formerly Twitter).

The 6-foot-1, 238-pound bruiser inked a two-year, $10M contract prior to the 2022 season.

Edwards entered Sunday with 564 rushing yards on 133 totes (4.2 YPC) through 11 games and is currently fourth in the NFL with 10 rushing scores. At the half on Sunday, he had just 2 carries for 4 yards — but his Ravens held a 10-3 lead over the Los Angeles Chargers.

Gus โ€œThe Busโ€ is just three touchdowns behind Miami Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert for the NFL lead.

A score or two in the second half on Sunday night could shrink that gap further..
