Billy Joel drops ‘Turn the Lights Back On;” his first release since 2007

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Billy Joel released his first new song in 17 years on Thursday with the new single “Turn the Lights Back On,” according to a report in Rolling Stone.

The song is the 74-year-old “Piano Man’s” first release since 2007′s “All My Life” and “Christmas in Fallujah.” His last album of original material was 1993′s “River of Dreams.”

While the single can be considered a ballad, Joel strikes a note with a wink and nod to fans about how long they’ve had to wait for new material, the report said.

“I’m late, but I’m here right now … Did I wait too long to turn the lights back on?,” Joel sings on the song’s chorus.

A lyric video of the track has been making its way around social media, while Joel will debut the song live during Sunday night’s Grammy presentation, the report said.
