Body pulled from water in Bahamas believed to be shark attack victim : reports

The body of a man, who is believed to be the victim of a suspected shark attack, was pulled from the water at Saunders Beach in the Bahamas on Monday morning, according to reports. A preliminary investigation is currently underway.

The victim is believed to be in his mid-20s. The body reportedly suffered significant injuries and is estimated to have been in the water for four to eight hours.

BahamasLocal.com reported that Chief Superintendent of Police Chrislyn Skippings said officers responded to information about the body shortly after 7 a.m. on Monday morning. The outlet also noted that police believe the injuries are consistent with a shark attack and that more information would be provided following the coronerโ€™s report.

Saunders Beach, meanwhile, is a public beach near Nassauโ€™s cruise port and serves as a hotbed for tourists. Nearly seven million people visited the country last year alone.

Skippings urged beachgoers who choose to swim to bring a family member or someone along with them who could assist with an emergency.
