STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Months after authorities say a Staten Island man confessed to the fatal stabbing of a 72-year-old man inside a Graniteville apartment, authorities charged a second individual in connection with the case, court proceedings revealed Wednesday.
Douglas Collyer, 58, faces charges in state Supreme Court, St. George of hindering a prosecution and tampering with evidence in connection with the Nov. 10, 2022, incident.
The man who authorities allege confessed to the slaying, Seneca Morciglio, 45, was hit with a slew of charges including second-degree murder, first-degree assault, manslaughter and tampering with evidence, according to court documents.
The victim, Eugene Reba, was discovered inside the residence at 1290 Richmond Ave., which authorities now say was cohabitated by all three men.
Following the alleged homicide, the co-defendants are accused of placing the victim’s belongings in a shopping cart and lighting them on fire near Christopher Lane and Richmond Avenue, feet from a firehouse.
Morciglio, who stands about 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighs about 170 pounds, later told police he tossed the knife he used and the victim’s cell phone in the river.
He remains remanded without bail at Rikers Island and is scheduled to return to Criminal Court on Nov. 29.
Prosecutors with the Richmond County District Attorney’s office told Justice Lisa Grey that they’re considering an offer in the case of 25 years incarceration in exchange for a guilty plea to first-degree manslaughter, in addition to one to three years for tampering with evidence. Which, explained Assistant District Attorney Amir Fadl, would take into consideration Morciglio’s personal history and circumstances surrounding the slaying itself.
Sources previously said Morciglio is believed to have a history of personal tragedy and alcohol dependance, while it remains unclear outside of the stabbing itself what role exactly the co-defendant played in the ordeal.
