Monsignor Farrell product Kevin Coyle added to his already impressive football resume over the weekend when Fresno State University upended New Mexico State, 37-10, in the New Mexico Bowl on Saturday.
Coyle, Fresno’s defensive coordinator, put together a game plan that limited the Aggies to just 193 total yards, including 58 through the air. NMS is one of the top rushing teams in all of college football.
Coyle is in his second stint at Fresno after returning to the California school in 2021. The New Dorp native, who was previously FSU’s defensive coordinator between 1997-2000, helped the Bulldogs win the 2022 Mountain West Championship and LA Bowl a year ago.
Prior to returning to Fresno, he served as a defensive analyst for LSU’s football program for a number of seasons, including the Tigers’ National Championship year of 2019.
He has been an assistant coach at the University of Cincinnati, Arkansas, the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Holy Cross, Syracuse and Maryland as well. His stint at Kings Point was under legendary Farrell head football coach Dennis Barrett.

Coyle, of course, has plenty of experience — and success — with NFL franchises as well. He was a part of the Cincinnati Bengals’ coaching staff between 2001-11 and again in 2016-17 and was the Miami Dolphins’ defensive coordinator between 2012-15.
Following a standout football career at Farrell between 1970-74, Coyle played collegiately at the University of Massachusetts.
He was inducted into Farrell’s Alumni Hall of Fame in 2010 and the Staten Island Sports Hall of Fame a year later.
