On Thursday, coach Robert Saleh clarified why wide receiver Allen Lazard left practice late Wednesday. Saleh says Lazard has an AC joint injury and wonโt practice on Thursday,

Saleh added that Lazardโs status for Saturdayโs game against the New York Giants is unclear, โbut weโre not worried about his availability for Week 1.โ
This comes donโt the heels of another Jets wide receiver Corey Davisโs unexpected retirement on Wednesday.
Lazard, who at 6-foot-5 is Aaron Rodgersโs tallest target, signed a four four-year, $44 million deal with the Jets in March. At the time, he acknowledged that Rodgers played a huge role in him going from an undrafted free agent in 2018 to signing a lucrative contract. And Lazard said that Rodgers provided him with more than just great quarterback play.

โHe really put his arm around me and heโs a big reason why Iโm here today,โ Lazard said. โI canโt deny that. He stood up on the table for me during training camp when I probably didnโt deserve to make the roster — at least in the front officeโs eyes. And he called for me to be in the game. Heโs relied on me in a lot of heavy-pressure situations and has always believed in me. As a wide receiver the best relationship you can have is with a quarterback and the relationship I have with him has been phenomenal.โ
He also has a great relationship with offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, which Lazard admitted might have been the biggest factor in his decision to join the Jets. He described playing in Hackettโs offense as โfunโ and โeasyโ and recounted the good times they had together in the meeting room.
