STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A multiple-car crash in the parking lot of The Boulevard shopping center in New Dorp prompted a large emergency response Monday afternoon.
The crash at the popular Hylan Boulevard retail plaza was reported around 12:45 p.m., according to emergency radio transmissions.
At least five damaged vehicles could be seen in the lot where the collision occurred, in the parking area between ShopRite and CVS.
The crash appears to have sent one vehicle careening over the curb and into the metal support frames protecting an under-construction storefront where the former Modell’s used to be.

The impact appears to have damaged several of the metal support bars. That vehicle sustained significant front-end damage.
Debris from the vehicles littered the parking lot.
One woman whose white Buick was damaged in the collision said she was walking back to her car after shopping and saw the emergency response.
“I purposely park away from the shopping center, so as I’m walking down I see fire engines, I see the police,” she said. “I come here and my car is wedged, it was like all these cars are wedged in a semi-circle, all hit.”
The FDNY and NYPD were among those on the scene and a helicopter hovered over the location.
This is a developing story and further information will be posted as it becomes available.
