STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Officials are investigating a crash that occurred overnight in West Brighton near Clove Lakes Park on Sunday, which apparently left a vehicle short a couple of doors.
According to a source with knowledge of the investigation, the collision — which occurred at the corner of Clove Road and Forest Avenue — was reported to the city Parks Department on Monday.
It is unclear if there was a witness to the collision, which the source said occurred overnight. The NYPD did not respond to a request for information on the incident.
A street sign was knocked down and “debris” from the vehicles involved was left behind, according to the source. The source said no damage to the park was reported.
On Monday, remnants of the crash, including two car doors left behind in their entirety, could be seen on the grassy area next to the damaged street sign.
Parks Department officers were on scene investigating the bizarre incident Monday afternoon, and the debris was cleared later in the day.
