STATEN ISLAND, N.Y — A driver attempting to navigate his way around black ice on a Staten Island street accidentally flipped his vehicle Tuesday afternoon, police said.
The 21-year-old man was traveling on Sunrise Terrace near Occident Avenue in Grymes Hill just before 4 p.m. when he lost control of the steering wheel and the car overturned onto its passenger side, according to a spokeswoman for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.
The 2011 BMW SUV could be seen with both its hood and a large sheet of windshield glass scattered in the street. A parking sign was also knocked down during the incident.
The man told officers at the scene that he was uninjured and he refused a medical evaluation, police said. He was driven home by family, while the SUV was removed from the area by a towing company, the spokeswoman said.
