STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — One person was arrested at the scene of a collision in Tompkinsville early Monday that left a pedestrian in critical condition, a NYPD spokeswoman said.
Police initially said that a vehicle had hit the pedestrian shortly after 2 a.m.
“The operator of the motor vehicle remained on scene,” the spokeswoman told the Staten Island Advance/SILive.com. “And was placed under arrest with charges pending.”
Police have not released any details about the driver.
The pedestrian, a man, suffered a head injury after the driver struck him in the vicinity of Victory Boulevard and Monroe Avenue at about 2:21 a.m., according to the latest information from the NYPD.
He was listed in critical condition as of early Monday afternoon, according to the spokeswoman.
According to police, responding officers received a 911 call for a pedestrian stuck by a 2018 Nissan Rouge.

Police investigators believe the Nissan was traveling southbound on Victory Boulevard when it struck the pedestrian who was attempting to cross Victory Boulevard mid-block, outside of the marked crosswalk.
According to an FDNY spokesman, the pedestrian was found unconscious by first responders.
On Monday morning, a singe red sneaker remained on the roadway.
“The collision caused the pedestrian to be thrown to the pavement, striking his head on the roadway,” said the spokeswoman. “EMS removed the aided pedestrian to Richmond University Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.”
Buses were rerouted in the area during the first half of rush hour as police continued their investigation. The S46, S48, S61, S62, S91, S92, S96 and S98 were all impacted, with westbound buses skipping stops along Victory Boulevard from Brook Street to Jersey Street, according to New York City Transit.
At 8 a.m. the bus detours were canceled.
