Earthquake felt in New York City; officials asking for public accounts of incident

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.— An earthquake was reported Thursday in the Big Apple, according to the city’s emergency notification system.

The 1.7 magnitude trembler occurred near Astoria, Queens, officials said.

As of Tuesday morning, Notify NYC stated there had been no reports of damage or injuries in the city.

The U.S. Geological Survey is advising residents to indicate whether they experienced the effects and/or aftershocks. That information can be submitted at https://earthquake.usgs.gov/dyfi/.
