STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — With Flag Day right around the corner, Councilman Joseph Borelli (R-South Shore) is offering Staten Islanders a chance to give their old American flags a proper sendoff.
Flag Day is celebrated each year on June 14, the date that the national flag was officially adopted 246 years ago in 1777.
The councilman’s district office, located at 2955 Veterans Road West, Suite 2E, will serve as a drop-off site for residents looking to retire their old flag.
Staten Islanders can drop their flag off at the district office from Wednesday, June 7, through Friday, June 9, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
“Each year on Flag Day, we are given the opportunity to retire many of our beautiful flags which have flown to display the glory of our nation in a dignified way. Should anyone have a flag in need of proper retirement, they can drop them off to my office at 2955 Veterans Road West, Suite 2E,” Borelli said.
