STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood watch for the New York City area.
The alert states that areas in and around Staten Island will see โisolated to scattered instances of flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall.โ
The alert is in effect from 2 a.m. Saturday morning through the evening.
Areas where there is poor drainage and urban areas could see flooding caused by excessive rain. Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is also possible, the alert states.
According to Mayor Eric Adamsโ Twitter feed, โperiods of heavy rain and potential flooding are in the forecast for late tonight into tomorrow.โ
New York City is expected to receive 1.5 to 2.5 inches of rainfall, with locally three to four inches possible.
Rain will start late Friday night, early Saturday morning before the borough will see 100% chance of precipitation, NWS reports.
NWS also reports that a patch fog will be in the area before 11 a.m. The percentage of chance of rain will decrease by nightfall. decreasing by nightfall
