Forbes tabs Staten Island native Teddy Atlas one of boxing’s ‘50 most influential people in 2023′

You can add another bullet point to Staten Island native Teddy Atlas’ illustrious résumé in the sport of boxing.

Forbes contributor Brian Mazique unveiled his list of boxing’s “50 most influential people in 2023″ and the Hall of Fame analyst and longtime trainer was on it. The list includes promoters, fighters, analysts, and managers.

Famed promoter Eddie Hearn, as well as popular fighters Canelo Alvarez, Jake Paul, Gervonta Davis, and others appeared on the list — which was in no specific order but included Atlas under the “voices” category.

“Few have had a career in boxing that is as far-reaching as Teddy Atlas,” wrote Mazique, who pointed to Atlas’ ties to legends of the “sweet science”, such as Mike Tyson and Cus D’Amato.

Mazique also acknowledged the use of Atlas’ voice in the “Knockout Kings” video game series and his extensive work as an analyst for ESPN.

“Few people have a more recognizable voice in boxing than Teddy Atlas,” quipped Mazique.

Atlas has withstood the test of time in the sport, with a career tracing back half a century — beginning with his own fighting days in the 1970s. He copped the 1976 Adirondack Golden Gloves belt before pivoting to become a trainer, later working with D’Amato to help develop a young Tyson.

He has often adapted to the landscape and these days he records one or two shows a week on his acclaimed podcast “THE FIGHT with Teddy Atlas”, in addition to providing commentary and analysis for other platforms.

“I appreciate such praise in the Industry that I’ve been in most my life and have always done my best to serve in the most candid and honest way I can,” Atlas told the Advance/SILive.com. “I’ve always wanted to both make my family proud and to fulfill my responsibilities to the fighters, the fans and the sport in this great but difficult business.”
