Former Yankees manager joins YES Network as an analyst

He’s worn a number of hats for the team over the years, but four-time Yankees World Series champion Joe Girardi will don a familiar once more. The 59-year-old former player, coach, manager, and broadcaster with the team will return to the YES Network in 2024, where he will serve as an analyst.

The longtime MLB backstop previously served in an analyst/announcer role with YES in 2004 and 2007. He, of course, won three championships with the team in the late ‘90s as a player and another as manager in 2009.

Girardi was the Yankees’ bench coach prior to taking over as skipper.

The former catcher managed the Bronx Bombers from 2008-2017 and then served as manager of the Phillies for two-plus seasons from 2020-2022. Girardi is also currently an analyst for the Chicago Cubs’ Marquee Network, a role he will still remain in.

He appeared on The Michael Kay Show on Friday, where he acknowledged that he would like to manage again someday, but he’s thrilled with his current gig, nonetheless.

“If I don’t get a chance, I’m OK with that, too. I’m at peace with that,” said Girardi. “I love broadcasting too, it’s a great job. I’m really fortunate to come back to what I consider home to the Yankees.”
