From the Greenbelt to Clove Lakes Park: Staten Island is the place to be for family-friendly fun this weekend

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Here are some family-friendly events on Staten Island that the entire family can enjoy.

Saturday

For the Love of Birds / Feb. 3, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Head to the Greenbelt Nature Center for an incredible event dedicated to our feathered friends. Learn about the most common birds you might find in the Greenbelt — or in your own backyard. Make a bird feeder from upcycled materials to take home as a a way show love to our local birds. Register via Eventbrite.

Post-Groundhog Day Hike and Shadow Craft / Feb. 3, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Join the Urban Park Rangers to celebrate Staten Island Chuckโ€™s Groundhog Day prediction with a hike and craft! Along the way, you will learn the history of Groundhog Day and explore the way light shapes our vision of nature and the seasons with a paper craft.

Dances from the Ivory Coast Workshop / Feb. 3, 4 to 4:30 p.m.

The Cumbe Center for African and Diaspora Dance presents KOUKOU: Gathering Together at the Staten Island Childrenโ€™s Museum. KouKou is a dance of community that often guides children in learning the fundamentals of African dance. This workshop will highlight the importance of communityโ€“building through the magnetic and joyful rhythms and dances of the Ivory Coast, West Africa.

ShopRite Kidz Cook — Pastabilities: Spaghetti with Artichokes and Mushrooms / Feb. 4, 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. & 3:30 p.m.

ShopRite Kidz Cook is a caregiver-and-me program that introduces children to a diversity of foods, explains cooking concepts and helps build dexterity with cooking utensils. Recommended for ages 4 and up.
