The Giants on Thursday hired Carmen Bricillo to be their new offensive line coach, replacing Bobby Johnson, who was fired after two seasons.
The hire was made quickly, since Johnson was just fired Monday.
Bricillo is the only known candidate to interview with Giants coach Brian Daboll for the job, as Daboll enters a hot seat Year 3.
Now, can Bricillo help fix the Giants’ disastrous line?
Bricillo, 47, was the Raiders’ offensive line coach the past two seasons and the Patriots’ offensive line coach in 2021. As the Raiders go through a head coaching search, they let Bricillo interview with the Giants. And now, he will join them, in yet another pairing with an ex-Patriots assistant.

Bricillo was with the Patriots from 2019-21. Daboll’s final season in New England was 2016.
Bricillo was Youngstown State’s offensive line coach from 2010-18. Then he spent 2019 as a coaching assistant in New England, before being elevated to co-line coach in 2020 and head line coach in 2021. Then he went to Las Vegas to join Belichick disciple Josh McDaniels in 2022.

Left tackle Andrew Thomas and center John Michael Schmitz are guaranteed of keeping their jobs. Thomas is an elite player, and the Giants just drafted Schmitz in Round 2 last year. He had an uneven rookie season.
One of the biggest problems on the Giants’ line is that right tackle Evan Neal (the 2022 seventh overall pick) has been a complete failure — and also has struggled to stay healthy. The Giants simply cannot enter this summer with Neal as their sure-thing starting right tackle.
