Giants co-owner ‘pissed off’ at legendary coach Bill Belichick, host says

Bill Belichick’s shadow should be looming over Giants head coach Bill Daboll.

With the Giants’ (2-5) disappointing start to the 2023 season and Belichick’s potential exit from the Patriots, it seems that a reunion between the two should make sense. On Friday, WFAN’s Evan Roberts revealed why it doesn’t.

It seems Giants co-owner John Mara is holding a grudge against the legendary coach after he sent an errant text to Brain Flores on getting the Giants’ head coaching job. The text, which was used in Flores’ racial discrimination lawsuit against the NFL and three teams, including the Giants, was intended for Daboll.

“I’ve heard…John, since that moment, is pissed off at Belichick. That may have caused some friction and a falling out,” Evan said on “Evan and Tiki” on Friday. “And I’m on team Mara, by the way. John is right. That mistaken text by Bill caused a lot of issues. That information was supposed to be private.

“That’s what I’ve heard. The whole reunion with Bill and the Giants might not happen, because the Giants are pissed off at Bill.”

It’s clear that the Giants still hold a special place in Belichick’s heart. After all, two of his eight Super Bowl rings came as a member of the Giants coaching staff.

In September, he even walked back comments comparing Cowboys’ Micah Parsons to Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor. “I would just say, I wouldn’t put anybody ahead of Lawrence Taylor, period,” Belichick told reporters before losing to the Cowboys 38-3 in Week 4.
