Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has gotten a lot of praise this week.
First, Pro Bowl wide receiver Greg Jennings declared that Jones is a “top eight″ quarterback in the league, and now, San Francisco 49ers’ Kyle Shanahan, is pointing out how rare quarterbacks like Jones are.

Ahead of Thursday’s game against the Giants, Shanahan told reporters, via Lindsey Pallares of 49ers.com:
“(He’s a) huge challenge. It starts with his legs – anytime you have that speed and you can run the ball like he does,” he said on Tuesday. “They’re willing to run him. He’s willing to run. He’s physical when he runs. He has the skill set to run away from people.
“Anytime you have a quarterback like that, the challenge that does schematically, unlocking your defense and making you have to play a certain way is always a pain.”
Jones went off in the second half against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. With the Giants trailing 20-0, making them the first team to allow at least 60 unanswered points to start a season since the 1978 Baltimore Colts, according to ESPN Stats & Info, the 26-year-old quarterback made history.
According to an X (formerly Twitter) post by OptaSTATS, no other quarterback has ever thrown for 250 or more yards, rushed for 50 or more yards, thrown multiple touchdown passes, rushed for a touchdown and had no turnovers in NFL history in the second half of a game.
“Then, he has the ability to play in the pocket and beat you that way, too,” Shanahan added. “He’s getting better each year. We’ve all really loved him coming out, and one of the main reasons he took them to the playoffs last year. He played unbelievably well in that second half on Sunday.”
The 49ers hope Jones doesn’t carry that performance into Thursday night.
