It’s uncertain where Saquon Barkley will be come next season after spending the last six years with the Giants.
It’s the second year in a row that the running back’s future will take up much offseason focus as he could potentially be entering free agency in March. But that only happens if New York fails to come to an agreement on an extension with the former No. 2 overall pick, or decides not to slap the franchise tag on him.
According to Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic, Giants general manager Joe Schoen and Barkley spoke after the season while Barkley prepared to film a Super Bowl commercial. Schoen plans to meet with Barkley’s reps at the combine later this month.
“We had a good conversation,” Schoen said Tuesday at the Senior Bowl, via Carroll.
Barkley, 26, was franchise-tagged last offseason and signed a revised contract with the Giants in July that included a $10.091 million base with $909,000 in incentives. He can be tagged again at a 120% increase on the 2023 contract, which would be around $12 million.
Barkley made 14 starts this season and rushed 962 yards on 247 carries for six touchdowns, adding 280 yards and another four touchdowns on 41 receptions.
