STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Golden’s Kosher Deli & Restaurant was located at 2845 Richmond Ave., in what used to be called the Kmart Shopping Center. It closed on Jan. 1, 2012, due to landlord/tenant problems after a 30-year run in New Springville.
The shopping center now includes a strip of businesses, including Spectrum, CardSmart, and the US Postal Service.
The subway car that was the centerpiece of the restaurant was recently found by senior opinion writer Tom Wrobleski, completely restored on the grounds of Tom Zoufaly’s seven-acre home in upstate Warwick, N.Y. Zoufaly restored the interior, including electricity and heat. The outside of the subway car was painted dark green.
