Gov. Hochul’s plans for April solar eclipse: Here’s what you need to know

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — With less than 100 days until New York state’s first total solar eclipse in nearly a century, Gov. Kathy Hochul recently updated residents and visitors with plans to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience viewing the sensational event.

On April 8, a rare total solar eclipse will pass over Mexico, the United States and Canada, according to NASA. A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the sun. During this time, the sky will darken, as if it were dawn or dusk.
