STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Local marijuana enthusiasts will soon be able to legally purchase cannabis products without leaving the comfort of their home borough.
Staten Island’s first adult-use marijuana dispensary, The Flowery, is planning for a soft opening on Tuesday, Jan. 9, with a grand opening party expected sometime in the weeks that follow, according to owner Mohamed Elgaly.
The store, located at 3022 Veterans Rd. West in Charleston, will be stocked with a vast variety of cannabis products, including marijuana flower, pre-rolls, concentrates and edibles. Prices will vary based on THC dosage, but eighths of flower are expected to range from $40 to $60, with pre-rolls available for $10 to $20 and edibles ranging from $25 to $50.
Elgaly, who has presented plans for the business to various community groups, said that while some have voiced concerns about potential sales to under-age customers, the vast majority of people he’s spoken to are extremely excited about the upcoming opening.
“I think nine out of 10 people are super excited. Even Community Board 3, the members were very excited about the opportunity of having the first [adult-use dispensary] on Staten Island,” Elgaly said. “There was one or two concerned parents, because it’s something new to them and whenever something is new some people are scared.”
But with strict security on site during all operating hours, Elgaly said there’s no need to worry and that all sales will be conducted legally to customers ages 21 and up.
Customers will enter into the store’s reception area, where they will be immediately ID’d by security personnel before being permitted to enter the main room.
Various products will be on display in locked showcases, with the televisions adorning the walls showing a complete menu of items available for purchase.
