HS basketball: Martin cracks 1,000-point barrier, but St. Peter’s late rally comes up short in loss to Scanlan

Monsignor Scanlan came to New Brighton for an early season CHSAA AA division test, and after a fast start the Crusaders hung on for a 49-47 decision Sunday evening.

In the loss, St. Peter’s star senior forward Qadir Martin scored a team-high 17 points, including the 1,000th of his HS career. He became the 14th Eagle to eclipse the barrier and the 124th male overall in Staten Island history.
