There’ll be a Silent Night, once again.
Staten Island style.
The annual game between host Notre Dame Academy and St. Joseph Hill will take place on Wednesday at the College of Staten Island’s Sports and Recreation Center in Willowbrook. The junior varsity game is scheduled to kick off at 5:15 p.m., followed by the varsity contest at 7.
The game is sold out and tickets cannot be obtained at the door, according to NDA athletic director Nick Senise. The only way to enter CSI is if you have a pre-bought ticket.
However, those wishing to watch the game can still do so by watching a live stream on Nobody Cares Sports.
There were rumblings about Wednesday’s game being postponed due to a problem lowering one of the baskets at CSI, but the problem has been resolved and the scheduled time is now set in stone.
For those not familiar, Silent Night has become a tradition between the Gators and Hilltoppers for over a decade now, although it wasn’t always as publicized as it is today. Basically, NDA’s student body remains silent when the Gators initially put the ball in the basket. However, as soon as NDA reaches the ‘seventh’ point, the Grymes Hill school’s faithful go wild.
NDA and Hill traditionally play each other twice during the regular season each year. Last year, the Hilltoppers won both contests, including a 50-40 decision on Silent Night and 75-68 at Hill.
The Hilltoppers, coached by Jim Garin, are currently 3-0 in league play and 7-1 overall while the Gators, coached by Bobby DellaValle, are 4-0 and 4-2, respectively.
