St. Joseph Hill will honor former long-time coach Anthony Curatolo prior to the Arrochar school’s Alumni game on Saturday.
The 83-year-old Curatolo, who coached Hill for 18 seasons (1984-2001), guided the Hilltoppers through the program’s most successful stint between 1987-95.
Hill’s current varsity is scheduled to scrimmage St. Dominic’s of Oyster Bay, L.I., at 11 a.m. Saturday and the ceremony honoring Curatolo will take place at 12:30 p.m. (Check-in is noon). The Alumni game will commence at 1 p.m. with a luncheon to follow at the school afterwards.
During Curatolo’s tenure as coach, the Hilltoppers captured five CHSAA Staten Island division titles; three CHSAA Archdiocesan crowns; five Catholic state B titles and one NYS Federation B championship.
In addition, the Hilltoppers boasted three Jaques Award winners (Tara Walsh (2), Erin Elder), seven 1,000-point scorers and a whopping 14 Advance All Stars during Curatolo’s stint as coach.
Many of Curatolo’s former players — as well as other Hill basketball alumnae — will be attending Saturday’s event.
Although the deadline to sign up and play has passed, former players are encouraged to attend on Saturday, particularly if they played for Curatolo, who still lives in Rosebank.
