STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Ever since kindergarten, Dylan Yue and Anthony Perretti have been best friends. They play football together, ride bikes in Bloomingdale Park and spend countless hours in the pool every summer. According to their moms, they have been “stuck like glue” since the age of 5.
So when Dylan developed alopecia in 2020 and started losing his hair in clumps, Anthony barely reacted.

“It’s just hair,” he said, and consoled his pal as his eyebrows and lashes quickly disappeared.
“Everyone should have an Anthony in their life,” said Cindy Carbone-Yue, Dylan’s mother, who described the boys’ relationship as inspiring. “He has been so supportive of my son; stuck up for him when other kids made fun and didn’t recognize why he has no hair.”

When Anthony surprised his friend on Thursday by shaving his own head in solidarity, hoping to show support of Dylan’s struggle at an alopecia awareness event at their school, Carbone-Yue said she was overwhelmed with emotion – but not shocked by the gesture.
“That’s who Anthony is, and that is exactly the kind of bond that they share,” the mother said, choking up as she called her son’s best friend an “old soul.”
“I’m so glad he’s a part of Dylan’s life.”
Stephanie Perretti, Anthony’s mom, proudly documented the haircut and shared it on social media.
“It’s alright not to have hair, it doesn’t matter,” Anthony says during the clip, laughing as his own locks fall from the barber’s buzzer. “I love you bro.”
