STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The antipathy that many Staten Island drivers feel for speed cameras is well known.

While some drivers think that the cameras have improved road safety by compelling motorists to drive more slowly, others despise the devices, believing they are nothing more than a money grab by New York City.
