STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The use of artificial intelligence (AI) is already costing some Americans their jobs and the situation is only going to get worse, according to a new survey.
A recent study conducted by ResumeBuilder.com surveyed 750 of the countryโs top business leaders on their companyโs usage of AI and the impacts itโs having on their workforces.
More than half, 53%, of all companies surveyed are already utilizing some form of AI, with 37% of those companies saying that workers were laid off this year because they were no longer needed due to the use of the new technology.
An additional 24% of companies said they plan to start using AI next year, meaning that more than 75% of all surveyed companies will be using AI in 2024.
Of the companies that will be using AI in the coming year, 44% said jobs could be impacted, with 21% saying that employees will definitely be laid off as a result and 23% acknowledging workers will probably be laid off.

With AI set to play a significant role in the future of many companies, employees should familiarize themselves with the new technology if they want a better chance of retaining their jobs.
Among companies planning to use AI next year, more than 80% said familiarity with the technology could help them keep their roles, with 45% saying AI skills will definitely improve an employeeโs job security and 38% saying it will probably improve their job security.
Companies will also be seeking out new employees with AI experience, with 65% saying that prior AI experience will be very beneficial for candidates and an additional 31% saying it will be somewhat beneficial.
