The preseason is over. Finally. Now comes the hard part, after the Jets beat the Giants 32-24 on Saturday night.
General manager Joe Douglas and coach Robert Saleh must decide by Tuesdayโs deadline who is staying and who is going on the 53-man roster. And that saying goodbye to nearly 40 players who have been a part of this team since July 19, when 90 players reported for a nearly six-week marathon training camp and preseason.
โThatโs the crappy part about this entire thing, especially with how long weโve been in camp, having the Hall of Fame game,โ Saleh said Saturday night. โYou just draw a connection and an appreciation for all of these guys โ the way they go about their business and the way theyโre fighting for jobs. These are the hard ones because some of them, youโre not saying goodbye forever, but some of them, their careers are ending. These are always the hard ones.โ

So what will the hard decisions look like for the Jets in the coming days? Hereโs our final 53-man roster projection.
Quarterback (2)
Starter: Aaron Rodgers
Depth: Zach Wilson
Projected cut: Tim Boyle
Outlook: The top two are obvious. The big question is if the Jets will keep Boyle on to be their potential emergency quarterback.
Running back (5)
Starter: Breece Hall
Depth: Dalvin Cook, Michael Carter, Israel Abanikanda, Nick Bawden (FB)
Projected cuts: Donovan Knight, Travis Dye
Outlook: This room is deep, but thereโs a lot of work to do as Hall just started working into team drills over the past two weeks as he returns from a torn ACL and Cook, who was signed recently, has yet to participate in team drills during practice. Hall will likely be the first running back on the field, but expect Cook to get the most carries early as Hall recovers from his injury.
