Robert Saleh has coached the New York Jets for 48 games. He has 16 wins and 32 losses, the latest one coming Sunday in a 30-0 slaughter at the hands of the Miami Dolphins.
So, naturally, the 5-9 Jets head coach was asked about whether his job security enters his mind at all, a question from ESPN’s Rich Cimini that Saleh danced around.
“No,” Saleh said. “Two types of coaches, Rich: Those who have been fired and those who are about to get fired, my man. We coach in the moment, coach to win a football game.”
Saleh, the rest of his staff and his players have three games left this season, starting with the Washington Commanders, to reverse the narrative of a disastrous season.
Boomer Esiason, the former NFL QB who played for the Jets, said Monday on WFAN that he thinks owner Woody Johnson could be getting “impatient” and that “changes” could be coming.
How could you blame him? The Jets were eliminated from playoff contention for the 13th season in a row and their players called out the coaches.
“They out-schemed us, out-efforted us, they played a better football game than we did today. It’s just tough,” wide receiver Allen Lazard told reporters Sunday.
