Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers can’t stop sparking controversies. And this one has nothing to do with football as one of the biggest names in late-night entertainment is threatening legal action against Rodgers over his most recent comments.
During his weekly paid appearance Tuesday on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers suggested Jimmy Kimmel — ABC’s long-time late-night host — has a connection to Jeffrey Epstein.
Rodgers said he would “pop some sort of bottle” once a list of those linked to Epstein was released, and that “a lot people, including Jimmy Kimmel, are hoping that doesn’t come out.”
Rodgers may or may not have been joking (he and Kimmel have a history of exchanging barbs) but Kimmel clearly did not take kindly to being linked to Epstein — who took his own life in August 2021 in a Manhattan prison while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges — responding on social media by reposting a video of Rodgers’ remarks along with a lengthy take-down that started with a condescendingly vulger nickname for Rodgers.
“For the record, for the record, I’ve not met, flown with, visited, or had any contact whatsoever with Epstein,” Kimmel wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Nor will you find my name on any ‘list’ other than the clearly-phony nonsense that soft-brained wackos like yourself can’t seem to distinguish from reality. Your reckless words put my family in danger. Keep it up and we will debate the facts further in court.”
Epstein was accused of luring numerous underage girls to his homes under false pretenses and then sexually abusing them, according to the Associated Press.
Epstein’s associate and former girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell is serving a 20-year prison sentence after being convicted in 2021 of helping Epstein recruit and sexually abuse underage girls.
