SMITHTOWN, L.I. – Great Kills Little League continued its winning ways in the New York State 11-year-old All-Star Softball Tournament with a pair of wins Sunday at St. James-Smithtown LL.

GK dumped Pearl River 15-0 in the first game of a pool-play twinbill and finished things off with a 9-7 triumph over Syossett. The pair of wins gave the Islanders three straight after dropping the opener to Central Square LL (6-2) and secured the No. 2 seed in todayโ€™s playoff round. GK will face Wantagh LL at 9 a.m. for a berth in Tuesdayโ€™s state championship round.

โ€œIโ€™m so proud of the way the girls have bounced back after dropping that first game,โ€ praised GK manager Harvey Bird Jr. โ€œToday they showed up with high intensity and were ready to play. It was the offensive jolt weโ€™ve been looking for and the top of the order set the tone right away.โ€
