SMITHTOWN, L.I. – Great Kills Little League continued its winning ways in the New York State 11-year-old All-Star Softball Tournament with a pair of wins Sunday at St. James-Smithtown LL.
GK dumped Pearl River 15-0 in the first game of a pool-play twinbill and finished things off with a 9-7 triumph over Syossett. The pair of wins gave the Islanders three straight after dropping the opener to Central Square LL (6-2) and secured the No. 2 seed in today’s playoff round. GK will face Wantagh LL at 9 a.m. for a berth in Tuesday’s state championship round.
“I’m so proud of the way the girls have bounced back after dropping that first game,” praised GK manager Harvey Bird Jr. “Today they showed up with high intensity and were ready to play. It was the offensive jolt we’ve been looking for and the top of the order set the tone right away.”
