Sean Reid-Foley isn’t worrying about his future with the Mets.
While he would like to snag one of the final bullpen spots in the team’s bullpen, at this point in his career, which uniform he wears doesn’t matter. He knows he’s ready to be a steady arm out of a big league bullpen.
“You either go out, pitch well, or you pitch bad,” Reid-Foley said, via The New York Post. “I either play for the Mets or another team, you know what I’m saying? There ain’t no pressure.”
That’s not to say that he doesn’t have a preference. The 6-foot-3 righty has been with the Mets since 2021 when he was involved in the trade that sent Steven Matz to the Blue Jays.
He’s made most of his big league appearances (27 of 48) in orange and blue, and he’d like to keep it that way.
“I want to pitch for the New York Mets,” Reid-Foley said, via Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. “I want my teammates that are in my locker room right now behind me.”
In three seasons in New York, Reid-Foley has logged 38-1/3 innings with a 4.58 ERA. He impressed last season when he struck out 16 batters in 7-2/3 innings, a career-high 18.8 SO/9. That’s after seeing an increase in fastball velocity — his four-seamer jumped 2.4 mph from 2021 (93.7 mph) to 2023 (96.1).
So, far Reid-Foley has impressed in his three Grapefruit League appearances. In three innings, he hasn’t allowed a hit while struck out six batters In his last spring appearance against the Yankees on Tuesday, he reached 96.6 mph with his fastball.
