Mobile food pantry event set for Staten Island will feature music, family activities and more

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The last stop on a summer mobile food pantry tour will take place in Gen. Douglas MacArthur Park, Dongan Hills, on Tuesday.

The event is the finale of an eight-week mobile Free Market tour hosted by the New York Foundling and Staten Island Community Partnership.

For the past eight weeks, the Free Market has provided food, toiletries and cleaning supplies to underserved residents across Staten Island.

In an effort to de-stigmatize the use of food pantries, each event features music and fun family activities.

This final event of the summer will be held at 1 p.m. at Gen. Douglas MacArthur Park, on the corner of Dongan Hills Avenue and Jefferson Street.

“Foundling is committed to its support of Staten Island and aims to provide its signature wraparound services and create a safe space for fun and learning for everyone to enjoy,’’ the event announcement said.

Attendance is free, and the event is open to the public, while supplies last.

The New York Foundling is one of New York’s longest-serving non-profit organizations, offering an effective and interrelated set of services.

The Staten Island Community Partnership, founded in 2007, works hand-in-hand with community organizations, local businesses, service providers and local government agencies to encourage and develop tailored programs, events and approaches to keep families together and children safe.
