N.Y. weather: When is next window for snow in NYC? Forecaster details next 10 days

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Staten Island’s resident weather rodent, Chuck the groundhog, might have correctly predicted an early spring on Groundhog Day after all.

While parts of New York state will see snowfall this coming week, Staten Island will see sunshine sprinkled with a little bit of rain later in the week, according to AccuWeather.

After an interesting two weeks with several bouts of snow, Staten Islanders will not have to worry about laying salt down or shoveling for the next 10 days, as New York City dwellers can expect clear skies until Thursday, according to AccuWeather senior meteorologist Dave Dombek.

“It actually looks like things are getting pretty quiet now going forward,” said Dombek. “We really don’t have any snow in our forecast; believe it or not, there is no snow in our forecast through the weekend and on into early next week.”

The most significant precipitation event that we will get this week will be in the form of rain Thursday evening into Friday, Dombek noted.

The rain will make it colder, but it will dry out over the weekend when the sun comes back out and gives us milder temperatures, according to the forecaster.

“There’s really no sign of snow coming up next week as well,” confessed Dombek. “In a nutshell, we really don’t have any snow in the forecast for Staten Island and the New York City area for the next 10 days.”

Staten Islanders need not get too excited though because, according to Dombek, there is little chance that the snowfall New York City experienced the previous week will be the last one for the season.

“The chances of us not getting any more snow at all, even a small amount this season, will be an exceptionally small chance,” admitted Dombek. “Not saying it can’t happen though — anything’s possible, we still have a long way to go.”
