Nearby N.J. restaurant closing after 14 years, will be replaced by steakhouse chain

A New Jersey restaurant is closing as plans to replace the business with a steakhouse are progressing.

Grillestone Restaurant, located at 2377 Route 22 in Scotch Plains, will close on Feb. 10 after 14 years in business.

Char Steakhouse is set to takeover the space and open its third location in the Garden State.

An opening is planned for late 2024 although an exact date has yet to be announced.

โ€œIt was a family decision,โ€ Frank Peterpaul, co-owner of Grillestone told TapInto. โ€œWe all have young families now and are heading to other businesses.โ€

Grillestone originally opened in 2010. It was known for its offering live entertainment, and serving steak, seafood and pasta.

Charโ€™s Scotch Plains spot will be a โ€œmore modernized versionโ€ of Charโ€™s traditional restaurants, owner Michael Capezio told Patch.

The new restaurant will feature private dining rooms, an inside bar and an outside bar with a retractable roof, and an outdoor lounge with a fireplace.

Char Steakhouse currently operates locations in Raritan and Red Bank.

Some of its menu items include steak, seafood, salad, a raw seafood bar, chicken and burgers.
