Former Dallas Cowboys star running back and current free agent Ezekiel Elliott is without an NFL team at the moment, but his legal team was actively resolving a lawsuit against the three-time Pro Bowler on Monday.
Elliott was previously slapped with the suit, originally filed in July of 2021, after one of his dogs allegedly attacked a woman in his Frisco, Texas neighborhood. According to the Dallas Morning News, the suit was settled prior to Monday’s scheduled trial date.
The alleged victim, Jennifer Gampper, was reportedly seeking more than $1 million in damages amid claims that Elliott’s Rottweiler “viciously” attacked her. Court documents stated that she was left with “severe and permanent injuries”.
Terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
The DMN reported that the incident first took place in May of 2021 after officials were summoned to Elliott’s neighborhood in regards to three loose dogs. The Rottweiler bit two people before Frisco Animal Services was able to secure it, according to police.
Both victims were hospitalized with injuries and Elliott was issued three animal-at-large citations. The Rottweiler was placed under a mandatory 10-day quarantine.
The lawsuit further alleged that Elliott “was well aware that his dog had a propensity to bite and attack people” and also named a landscaping service as an additional defendant. According to the suit, a landscaper left a gate to Elliott’s backyard open prior to the dogs getting loose.
The 27-year-old Elliott spent seven seasons with the Cowboys before he was released by the team earlier this year. He was reportedly a potential option for the New York Jets, though he has not yet signed with a new team.
