Nine years after his death, Eric Garner is remembered at Tompkinsville event

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Dozens gathered Monday across the street from Tompkinsville Park to commemorate the life of Eric Garner, who died in front of 202 Bay Street nine years ago.

The daylong Tompkinsville event, featuring food and music, was organized by Jewel Miller, the mother of Garner’s now nine-year old daughter, Legacy, and several community activism groups, including Why Accountability, Shaolin Rising and Black Lives Matter greater New York.
