NY weather: Expect heavy snow in New York early Saturday evening

The National Weather Service issued a weather alert at 3:38 p.m. on Saturday for heavy snow until 4:30 p.m. for Oneida, Onondaga and Madison counties.

“At 3:38 p.m., a band of heavy snow was near Bridgeport, or 14 miles northeast of Syracuse moving east at 30 MPH,” states the weather service.

The warning is for Clay, Rome, Cicero, Oneida, Lenox, North Syracuse, Lee, Verona, Vienna and Canastota. This includes the following highway exits: interstate 90 between 33 and 34. New York Interstate 81 between 29 North and 31.

The weather service states, “Conditions can deteriorate rapidly in winter weather situations. Be prepared for snow or ice covered roads. Slow down and allow extra time to reach your destination.”
