NY weather: Expect snow squall in Broome and Delaware counties Saturday midday

The National Weather Service issued a report at 12:03 p.m. on Saturday for a snow squall until 12:45 p.m. for Broome and Delaware counties.

“At 12:03 p.m., a snow squall was near Sanford, or 7 miles northwest of Deposit moving east at 25 MPH,” states the weather service.

The warning is for Walton, Sanford, Deposit, Harvard, Fishs Eddy, Stilesville, Cannonsville, Oquaga Creek State Park, Rock Rift and Beerston. This includes the following highway exits: interstate 86/Route 17 84 and near 89.

The weather service states, “A rapid drop in temperature may cause black ice to form on roadways. Black ice is nearly impossible to see and roadways may appear only wet. Please use extreme caution, especially on bridges, overpasses and around curves. Allow plenty of stopping distance and avoid braking suddenly. Use extra caution if you must travel into or through this squall. Rapid changes in visibility and potentially slick roads may lead to accidents.”

Advance Local Weather Alerts is a service provided by United Robots, which uses machine learning to compile the latest data from the National Weather Service.
