On Tuesday at 3:26 a.m. the National Weather Service issued a high wind watch valid from Wednesday 7 p.m. until Thursday 4 p.m. for Herkimer, Fulton, Montgomery, Schoharie, Schenectady, Saratoga, Albany, Rensselaer, Greene and Columbia counties.
“West to northwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 60 mph possible,” says the weather service. “The strongest winds will be in the wake of the cold frontal passage Wednesday night when gusts up to 60 mph are possible. Winds of 40 to 50 mph are expected during Thursday.”
“Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles,” comments the weather service. “Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates on this situation. Fasten loose objects or shelter objects in a safe location prior to the onset of winds.”
