NY weather: Weather alert issued for heavy snow in New York Saturday night

A weather alert was issued by the National Weather Service on Saturday at 11:09 p.m. for heavy snow until 11:45 p.m. for Herkimer, Fulton, Montgomery, Schenectady and Saratoga counties.

“At 11:08 p.m., a band of heavy snow was over Pattersonville-Rotterdam Junction, or near Amsterdam moving east at 20 MPH,” according to the weather service.

This includes the following highways: interstate 90 between exits 26 and 28, and near exit 29A. Interstate 890 between exits 1a and 1b.

The weather service adds, “Conditions can deteriorate rapidly in winter weather situations. Be prepared for snow or ice covered roads. Slow down and allow extra time to reach your destination.”
